Richard Montoya is a graduate from Parsons School of Design in New York City whose career in graphic design expands over 30 years. His work ranges from packaging design to corporate identity. He has worked on projects with some high profiled clients such as Calvin Klein and Avon Products, Inc. as well as top advertising agencies for Ogilvy & Mather and Young & Rubicam. Richard also taught graphic design at Piedmont Virginia Community College.
In 2009, after having a successful design business, he and his family embarked on an 18 month volunteer training with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) taking him to places like Papua New Guinea, India and Afghanistan. During his time with YWAM he was able to use his skills to bring awareness of injustice issues through his graphics and filmmaking. He is currently on furlough in Virginia.
This art show includes new work created while on furlough using text-based imagery to produce visual play on words and their meaning as well as work done while overseas with YWAM. His passion is to continue to strongly influence, promote and persuade by using aesthetic and thematic approaches to words, language and images in print and film.
An art show not to be missed!

Eunoia: An Introduction

Hello! You are receiving this email because you indicated an interest in our ministry at an orientation activities fair sometime this summer. I must say, I’m mighty glad you did! Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Evan Hansen, the campus minister for Eunoia. This August marks the beginning of the third year I’ve led this community. Here’s a brief bio:
I was born in South Carolina, in the middle of nowhere. Seriously. I was raised in the Upstate, living in a forest and near some of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Growing up, I had a passion for reading and at least some religious sensibilities. As a late teen, living life outside of the church to the fullest, I found Jesus. He captured my heart and mind in college. I graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Sociology and Religion. I went on to pursue a degree in Theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
I love:
Before you read the rest of this email, I want to invite you to 1) come see us at the Activities fair on Monday, August 22nd , 2) Eat dinner with us at 6:30pm on Thursday August 25th , and 3) come experience a Eunoia art gallery on Friday August 26th.

What is Eunoia? Eunoia is a community of creative people who love Jesus and serve him by serving others. We do a lot of the same things as other college ministries, but we have a particular flavor to our community. I like to think about what we do in terms of Discipleship, Mentoring, and Service.
Discipleship – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength” –Jesus.
Mentoring: As a community serving UVA’s creative community, we are offering mentoring and education services appropriate to that community. As we serve these students, we hope their hearts are captured by Jesus’ love.
Service –“Love your neighbor as yourself.” –Jesus.
Is Eunoia for you? That’s a great question! If you love Jesus, love the church, and love others, then yes, Eunoia is for you. You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to love and serve artists. Are you interested in exploring new ways of worshipping? Then Eunoia is for you! Are you a leader interested in exploring ways to effect change in our culture? Then Eunioa is for you! If you want to explore the Christian life in a loving and supportive environment surrounded by people passionate about Jesus and others, then Eunioa is for you. If you aren’t even sure where you are with Jesus, but love being around creative people who genuinely love life and other people, Eunoia is for you.
The Image of the C(c)reator
The quick and dirty: Eunoia is offering a Free 10 week summer course designed to unlock creative potential in artists. Go here to sign up.
Description:
The creative soul and spirit have been crushed and mangled in the turning mechanical gears of the Industrial Revolution.
Human beings have been converted to machines, and operate on the fuel of fear, guilt and obligation. We are taught to think and eschew feelings. In this class we will explore how to restore the identity and image of the creator, by seeing ourselves through the image of the Creator. We will move back towards a sense of motivation by love, freedom, harmony, and pleasure. We will restore the fun in creativity.
Format
This fun and interactive course will be led by Bernard Hankins, a local creative catalyst. He is a musician, filmmaker, poet, writer, etc., and is very active in the artistic Charlottesville community. This unique experience will also provide a platform for artists to exhibit and perform their work, as well as share their hearts and ideas. This class is meant to affirm the importance of you as an artistic person in life and to call out your true personality as an artist. Sessions will be recorded in mp3 format and people are welcome to sign up by email if they want to benefit from the course but are unable to make any of the sessions.
Topics will include:
Social/Industrial impacts on the human soul
Creative rejection and guilt
Restoring the creative identity
Image of the Creator/creator
Creative Integration
Creativity as seen through gender lens
Creativity and mediocrity
Humans vs Robots
Machines vs Compassion
The right answer vs empathy
